Green: In both English and Chinese, green is often associated with

a) unripe, immature, inexperience;

b) environmental-friendliness;

c) youth, life, and hope.

Besides, in English, this color is often associated with “envy, jealousy” while in Chinese the color does not have this connotation.

(1) green bananas 青香蕉

green apples 青苹果

a green hand 新手，菜鸟(newbie)

Do you see any green in my eyes?

你以为我幼稚可欺吗？

(2) Green-Peace Organization

绿色和平组织 / 有机食品、绿色

(3)He was green-eyed when he learned I drove to work very day.

他听说我每天开车上班，就很嫉妒。

(4) give sb the green light:

give sb permission to do sth ( 给某人开绿灯)

(5) 遭受洪灾地区的灾民由于长期的饥饿而面如菜色。

The victims in the flood-stricken areas have turned quite green with long time starvation.

(6) Greenhouse effect

温室效应

(7) 红花还须绿叶扶。

Red flowers need to be set off by green leaves.

(8) 他老婆让他戴绿帽子 。

His wife had cuckolded him.
