　　About the Academy

　　WFLS Meiga Academy is a well-known private boarding school, ratified by Wuhan Education Bureau, sponsored by CIMIC Meiga Group and administered by Wuhan Foreign Languages School. The academy is conveniently situated in Wuhan Optical Valley of China and covers a total area of over ten hectares ( 160 mu ) with a total building area of 70,000 m2. With an enrollment of over 2160 students, the academy has two parts -- the Primary School (Grades 1 - 6) and Middle School (Grades 7- 9) and enjoys a good reputation for its beautiful campus, extraordinary resources, committed，experienced faculty and excellent teaching quality.

　　Mission and Philosophy

　　Our tenet is to "Inherit the Chinese culture, master the western science and technology and foster young talents with Chinese virtues and world views". Our guiding principle is to "Give priority to foreign languages project, attach equal importance to science and arts and promote international co-operation" so that Meiga will become a top private school with high teaching quality, strong characteristics and broad international contacts. The mission of Meiga is to provide a stimulating and nurturing environment and to offer an exceptional and balanced educational experience by encouraging each student to reach his or her potential and enabling them to develop academically, socially and emotionally and prepare themselves for the world and the future.

　　Administration

　　Meiga Academy is governed by a Board of Directors headed by Ms. Yungray Hsiao, MBA of Pace University, who used to be on the senior staff of Prudential Bache Securities, Merrill Lynch and Chase Marhattan Bank on Wall Street and is now President of CIMIC Meiga Group, Vice-chairman of Wuhan Overseas Friendship Association and Taiwan Merchant Association Wuhan. Headmaster Huaxing Yan and vice-headmaster Ming Huang oversee the academy’s administration and its schools.

　　Mr. Huaxing Yan, a winner of the State Council Award for Best Expert， is a nationally respected educationist and a prolific author on teaching and learning of English language. Among his books, An Integrated English Course is used as textbook by over 100 foreign language schools throughout the country.

　　Mrs. Ming Huang, the party secretary of WFLS, is a well-known teacher of a special classification, and national model teacher. Her deeds and achievements hit the headlines on China Education Daily.

　　Teachers

　　The most important part of the value of Meiga Education is teachers and the support and encouragement they provide for students. Over 190 talented and committed teachers, the great majority of whom hold advanced degrees and 20% of whom are senior lecturers, maintain active roles in their fields and ensure that students receive a leading education with social skills and strong foundation in character development. Meiga Academy has a low student teacher ratio and small classes so that students enjoy coaching, mentoring and caring in every possible way. Many teachers are awarded prizes and titles by local educational authorities.

　　Academic Program

　　Meiga Academy offers all the curriculum designed by the national ministry of education and at the same time provides Meiga-originated compulsory and elective courses. Here are some examples:

　　The Chinese traditional Primers

　　Students get up at dawn and read aloud the collection of the best Chinese traditional primers, i.e. The primer classic in Three-character Lines, Pupils’ Rules and Disciplines, Zhu Family Instructions and The Thousand Character Writing, etc. We develop new methods of reading primers—reading with vocal accompaniment, with musical accompaniment and with dancing accompaniment. Many lines of the primers are often on the lips of the children.

　　English Program

　　The program is based on authentic material from a variety of reliable sources and brings the real world to the classroom. The talented teachers shift the emphasis from grammar to communication skills, especially listening and speaking. Interesting and relaxing classroom activities and tasks extend the language in meaningful context and enable students to learn more effectively. Extensive Reading program guided by professors of Beijing Foreign Studies University is popular with students and encourages student fluency and confidence. Varied extra-curriculum activities, such as English corner, English party and competitions, foster the joy of learning and add to the attractions of the program.

　　Academic Achievements

　　Ever since 2008, we have been taking a great pride in our graduates’ success. 6 Meiga graduates tied for first place in the Wuhan Metropolitan Matriculation Examination. 68% of the students were enrolled by Key senior schools. 100% of the students completed the junior middle school course of study with satisfactory records. In 2010 two students got the first five places in a provincial English-speech Contest.

　　We attach great importance to ethical basis for education. Traditional virtues such as loyalty, courage, truthfulness, charity, justice ground everything that students do and make them gentlemen and ladies who behave well towards other people and act graciously and honorably. 学校领导

武汉外国语学校美加分校实行董事会领导下的校长负责制。学校董事长由斯米克美加集团总裁萧永瑞女士担任，校长由武汉外国语学校名誉校长燕华兴担任，常务副校长由武汉外国语学校党委书记黄敏担任。

    萧永瑞，毕业于美国纽约佩斯大学，获得MBA学位，曾任职于美国华尔街Prudential Bache Securities、美林证券、大通曼哈顿银行等知名证券公司、银行高级主管，现任斯米克美加集团总裁、武汉外国语学校美加分校董事长、武汉海外联谊会副会长、武汉市台商协会副会长。

    燕华兴，武汉外国语学校名誉校长、英语特级教师、武汉市优秀专家，湖北省有突出贡献的中青年专家、湖北省优秀教育工作者、享受国务院政府特殊津贴，在英语教学研究和教育评价方面著述丰厚，其主编的全国外国语学校统一英语教材《综合英语教程》，经全国中小学教材审定委员会审定通过，在全国40余所外国语学校作为主干教材使用。

    黄敏，武汉外国语学校党委书记、数学特级教师、武汉市优秀专家、全国优秀教师、市首批“十佳师德”教师、武汉市“五.一”劳动奖章获得者，其办学业绩和先进事迹多次被《中国教育报》长篇报道。

教师队伍

武汉外国语学校美加分校拥有雄厚的师资力量。学校提出的教育理念，吸引了大批具有教育理想、师德高尚、教学经验丰富的优秀教师到武汉外国语学校美加分校来任教。为了全面提高教学质量，武汉外国语学校美加分校面向全国高薪招聘了一批高级教师和市级以上学科带头人、省级骨干教师。学校现有教师160余人，其中高级教师共22人，特级教师和高级教师占教师总数的20%以上。一批优秀的中、青年教师脱颖而出，在省、市优质课竞赛中屡创佳绩。不少教师在教学和科研中成绩卓著，在全省有较大影响。近两年来，有数十人次受到省、市教育行政部门嘉奖，荣获“武汉市学科带头人”，“武汉市优秀教师”，“武汉市优秀青年教师”，“武汉市百优班主任”等光荣称号。

办学特色

外语教育和中国文化教育是武汉外国语学校美加分校的两大办学特色。学校强调大面积教室，提供宽大的硬件环境。每班不超过40人的小班教育，保证学生都能得到老师充分的照顾和指导。

    学校采用全国外语学校英语教材，并引进英美权威的新版英语教材，按小班教学原则，每班在20人以内，保证课堂内每位学生开口，积极参与学习。英语教育学习时间，每周超过十小时，学校无论课堂内外都有充分英语环境，让学生浸泡在英语的海洋里。每日晨读英语经典短文教材，深入西方文化精神，帮助学生开拓西方视野，打好国际化人才的基础。

办学成绩

美加分校全面推进素质教育，视教育质量为生命，狠抓教学常规，深化教学改革，不断提高教育质量。

    2008-2010年，初三毕业班中考年年喜获丰收，获满分（状元）6人，11%的学生考入武汉外国语学校高中部，62%的学生考入省重点中学，一次性合格率达到100%。

    在2009年第25届武汉国际中小学生楚才作文竞赛中，我校共有6人获一等奖，7人获二等奖，10人获三等奖。

    在2009年全国“希望之星”英语风采大赛中，我校学生勇夺湖北赛区第一名和第二名并代表湖北省赴京参加总决赛，14名学生获武汉市复赛二等奖，16名学生获三等奖。在2008年全国蒲公英英语大赛中，我校获特等奖2人，金奖15人，银奖24人，铜奖17人，优秀奖47人。

    在2009年全国初中数学联赛中，我校7名学生分获二、三等奖。在全国希望杯数学邀请赛中，我校获二等奖6人，三等奖9人。

    在2009年尚德杯中国青少年科技创新大赛全国总决赛中，我校获项目第一名2人，第二名4人，第三名4人，1人获得百佳创新型学生奖，2人获著作权登记证书。我校荣获“中国青少年太阳能研究基地”称号。

    我校还获全国中部城市体育舞蹈公开赛少儿组一等奖。在2008年湖北省艺术小人才比赛中，我校获一等奖6人，二等奖19人，三等奖16人。在2009年全国中小学生绘画、书法大赛和全国少年儿童绘画、书法大赛中，我校27名学生获一等奖，48名学生获二等奖，33名学生获三等奖。

    2010年，我校小学部参加了武汉市教科院和武汉市教育电视台共同举办的走进数学王国电视邀请赛决赛，并取得了美加史上的最好成绩，在全市3万多考生的逐鹿中，我校有31名学生获奖，其中一等奖5名，二等奖7名，三等奖19名，遥遥领先其他学校。参加武汉市第四届小学生科学探究大赛中，有12名学生获奖，其中一等奖1名、二等奖4名、三等奖6名。在全国英语能力竞赛中我校有一等奖20人、二等奖30人、三等奖75人的好成绩，在全国英语蒲公英大赛中获金奖的有26人、银奖的有37人、铜奖的有88人、优秀奖有90人次。

硬件设施

发展前景

武汉外国语学校美加分校即将迎来一个新的快速发展时期。按照学校发展规划，在2至3年内，小学部学生将达到1500人，初中部学生将达到800人。学校将创设高中，引进英、美国际高中课程和大学预科课程，高中的办学规模将达500人。

    随着内地经济发展和国际化，武汉作为内地的重要城市，应工作需要移居内地光谷的境外人士和回国报效祖国的海归家庭与日俱增。学校将与有关方面探讨设立与欧美教育直接接轨的国际部的可能性，为满足光谷地区国际人士对国际学校教育的需求而努力。
