Sipping your daily cups of coffee could benefit your heart, depending on how much you drink.
A new study by the American Heart Association suggests that drinking two 8-ounce cups of coffee a day gives people an 11-percent lower risk of developing heart failure.
That’s compared to people who don’t drink any at all. Researchers analyzed data from other studies to come to their conclusion.
The study’s authors say they think coffee lowers the risk for diabetes which in turn lowers the risk for heart failure.
They do say drinking four cups a day seems to weaken the protection and five cups or more could harm you. Researchers say the data didn’t show whether the drinkers took decaf or fully caffeinated coffee, how they brewed it, or when they drank it.
The study is published in the American Heart Association’s journal Circulation: Heart Failure.
