一、听力训练

    A: I’m worried, Tom.

    B: What’s the matter, Mary?

    A: I’m having trouble learning English.

    B: Why are you having a problem with English?

    A: The grammar is too hard for me.      

B: Oh, I know what mean. I practiced grammar with a study group. That helps me a lot.  

   You should join a study group, too.

    A: I haven’t tried that. I’ve been using flashcards.

B: You probably know lots of English words, don’t you? But flashcards won’t help you

   learn grammar.

    A: You’re right. That’s my problem. I’m not studying the right way to learn English.

二、重点知识讲解

1. aloud  adv. 出声地；大声地

　  Please read the text aloud. 请朗读一下课文。

【辨析】aloud，loud 与loudly

（1）aloud只用作副词，意思是“出声地；大声地”，能让人听得见。通常与动词read, speak,cry, laugh, shout, call等连用。如：

      The little boy is crying aloud. 这小男孩子在大声哭。

      She called aloud for help. 她大声呼救。

    （2）loud用作副词，意思是“大声地；高声地；响亮地”，强调声音响亮，常与动词speak, talk,laugh等连用。loud 还可用作形容词。如：

      Don’t talk so loud. 讲话声音不要这么大。

    （3）loudly只能用作副词，意思是“响亮地”，其基本意义与loud 相同，常与 ring ， knock 等动词连用。如：

      Suddenly the bell on the wall rang loudly. 突然，墙上的铃大声地响起来。

      Someone knocked loudly (loud) at the door. 有人在大声敲门。

2. She added that having conversations with friends was not helpful at all．

   她又说和朋友对话根本没有用。

　 （1）not...at all意为“根本不；全然不”，not常可以和助动词及be动词相结合， at all则放在句尾，用于加强否定的语气。如：

My mother did not like the dog at all. 我妈妈根本不喜欢这只狗。

I don’t know him at all. 我根本不认识他。

   （2）“It is/was + 形容词(+ for sb) + to do sth”，意为“(对某人来说)做某事……”。在这一句型中it是句子的形式主语，真正的主语是句中的动词不定式短语。如：

It is harmful to smoke．吸烟是有害的。

It’s difficult for us to finish the work. 对我们来说，完成这项工作很困难。

3. afraid  adj.  害怕的；犯愁的                                                                                 

    afraid是形容词，在句中只可用作表语,不可用作定语,常跟在系动词be, feel, seem等之后作表语。如:

　　 Don’t be afraid. Everything will be all right soon. 别害怕。一切很快就会好的。

She seems afraid. 她好像有点害怕。

afraid的相关结构有：

   （1）be afraid to do sth意为“不敢做某事，害怕做某事”。

I am afraid to go out at night. 晚上我不敢外出。

   （2）be afraid of （doing）sth意为“害怕做某事/某物”。

She is afraid of dogs. 她害怕狗。

   （3）be afraid that ...意为 “害怕……；担心……”。如：

I’m afraid that I can’t agree with you. 恐怕我不能同意你的意见。

He is afraid that she will not come. 他担心她不会来。
